Library Workshop 1

This library workshop will focus on advanced skills in database searches for literature reviews. Topics will include how to conduct searches on multiple databases, getting the most out of Google Scholar, and tools for staying organized. Strategies to find, evaluate, and synthesize findings will be followed by a discussion on the different types of systematic literature reviews. The workshop will also highlight important updates on St. Lawrence College Library services. Please bring your mobile device or laptop to follow along.

Library Workshop 2

This library workshop will provide an overview of library collections and search techniques, including database searches for literature reviews. Topics will include how to get started on a literature review, how to select keywords and databases, and tools for organizing research articles. A step-by-step methodological process will be discussed in order to conduct efficient literature reviews.  The workshop will also highlight important updates on St. Lawrence College Library services. Scholarship Workshop Part 1

Part 1 of the Scholarship Workshop is addressed to individuals and agencies who are looking at developing an area of interest with regards to their scholarship work. Discussions will evolve around how to get started, seizing opportunities, balancing workload demands, reestablishing momentum and creating connections. All conference participants welcomed!

Scholarship Workshop Part 2

Part 2 of the Scholarship Workshop will be dedicated to individuals and agencies who are looking at further enhancing their already established scholarship work through the development of collaborative partnerships, accessing outside sources of funding, creating synergies and planning a path forward. All conference participants welcomed!

We invite all BScN faculty, BScN students, community partners and alumni to submit an abstract to present in an oral or poster presentation.
The deadline for abstract submission is March 31^st, 2019.

The criteria for abstracts submission and instructions for authors include:

The abstract should include the following sections: Title, author(s), presenter(s) and a description (maximum of 250 words) of the background, methodology, findings and impact/conclusions. Presented work is expected to follow a scholarly and methodological process (please refer to this presentation for more information http://casn.ca/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/3OverviewofBoyersModelSA.pdf).

Formats include: 

1. Oral presentation:

A1. 25 minutes  (20 minutes presentation + 5 min Q&A): for completed work
A2. 10 minutes (7 minutes presentation + 3 min Q&A): for project proposals, presentation of a paper, or work in progress

• Poster presentation (posters will be set up during breaks for discussion between authors and participants)

In the interest of providing a diversity of perspectives, the abstract review committee will accept a maximum of 1 abstract per author as presenter. Should abstracts be submitted by the same author, different presenter(s) will be required for each subsequent abstract. 

Responses will be sent out April 23^rd at the latest. Authors will be requested to confirm attendance at the conference to present their work within a week of receiving the acceptance.

This year, the BScN annual Synapse Nursing Symposium will be held on Thursday May 23rd, 2019 on the Cornwall Campus of St. Lawrence College under the theme Continuing our Scholarship Journey: Celebrating 10th anniversary of the first graduating class and we are excited to confirm our Synapse 2019 keynote speaker: Dr. Tracie Risling!

Tracie Risling RN, PhD is an Associate Professor in the College of Nursing at the University of Saskatchewan with a practice background in pediatric nursing. She began her nursing education career at Saskatchewan Polytechnic and spent five years teaching, and engaged in curriculum development, before assuming a leadership role in the Institute for Nursing Scholarship. In that position, she supported the scholarly work of nursing faculty including the development of research grants, publications, conference abstract submissions, and presentations. Dr. Risling currently leads a patient-oriented program of research in health informatics at the University of Saskatchewan. This work includes study on social media, co-design of patient-centered technologies, and patient access and use of electronic health records. Balancing this research with her teaching and administrative duties as the Curricular Chair for nursing has provided extensive experience on navigating the demands of scholarship and academic life.

Dr. Risling will be delivering a keynote address in addition to moderating a two-part scholarship workshop. The deadline for abstract submission is fast approaching on March 31st, 2019! In honour of the first graduating class 10 years ago from the St Lawrence College, Laurentian University Collaborative Program, Synapse will be hosting a special feature alumni event! This event will be from 4-6 pm after the conference on May 23rd. Save the date and spread the word.

The symposium will be highlighting the BScN program, its partners’ and alumni’s scholarship activities in a one-day conference at the Cornwall Campus of St. Lawrence College. The symposium will also use this opportunity to celebrate the 10^th year of the first BScN graduating class.

We invite all BScN faculty, BScN students, community partners and alumni to participate by submitting an abstract to present in an oral or poster presentation about a project, a study, or some other aspect of their work they are interested in sharing at this symposium. Abstracts will be accepted until March 31^st, 2019 and further information will be circulated.
